aronhold

ZUR DEUTSCHEN VERSION DIESER SEITE

I am Sue Arns, the daughter of Doris Ingeborg ("Inge") Aronhold, and the grand daughter of Richard and Margarete "Sascha" Aronhold. My parents escaped to Colombia / South America in 1937 while the rest of our family did not survive the Shoah.

My mother died in Colombia in 1968 when I was 12 years old. Whenever I asked about grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins she replied "... they are all dead".

I don't know much about my grandparents Margarete and Richard Aronhold neither of the rest of our family since my mother never spoke about it and died young.

Margarete was born as Margarete Stransky in Prague. She married my grandfather Richard Aronhold in Dresden, Germany. She died 1939 of cancer in Berlin. Her parents Lotti and Salomon Stransky are buried at the jewish cemetery in Prague.

Her sister Else Stransky was deported to and murdered in Izbica. I found many photographs of a gentleman named "uncle Robbie" of whom I don't know who he exactly is. If you have any hints for me, I would very much appreciate a short note.

March 2010:

I have to deeply thank my friends Dana and Lucia from Prague: They did a lot of research concerning my relatives in Prague and about my grandfather Richard Aronhold, who tried to escape via Prague. New Informations are to be found on the specific sites.

The name Aronhold is extremely rare in Germany (maybe it was a missspelling from "Arnhold" or "Arnold"), and I hope to find relatives or stories since - as far as I know - all "Aronhold" are related to each other but might have changed their name.

October/November 2010:

There are many more relatives of my grandfather Richard of what I had thought: His parents moved from Dresden to Berlin in late 1800s. His father Adolf Aaron Aronhold died 1897 and was buried at the Berlin-Weissensee cemetery. His mother Sophie Aronhold (nee Ascher) died in 1925.

My grandfather had a brother and 2 sisters: : Martin Aronhold, Elise Aronhold and Gertrud Aronhold.

Martin Aronhold survived the war, died 1947 and is also buried at the Berlin-Weissensee cemetery! Martin had a son( Heinz) who died 2007 in Germany and a daughter (Marga Dederscheck) who died 1963 in Germany.

My grandfather's sisters Elise and Gertrud Aronhold didn't survive the Shoah. Elise was murdered in Terezin in 1943, Gertrud was murdered in Lodz in 1941. Elise was the mother of a child Flora Aronhold, which died the day it was born (July 22, 1891) and also is buried at the Berlin-Weissensee cemetery. Elise was murdered as Elise Moeser in 1943 - does anyone know her husband and if there are any children?

Elise Aronhold became Elise Moeser and was married to Max Moeser. We don't know how and when he died.

Gertrud's daughters were Ruth and Esther. In a second marriage she married Valentin Hoffmann of whom I don't know how and when he died.

Ruth Bernhard became a famous photographer in the US. Gertrud's husband was Lucian Bernhard - he married Gertrud in 1905 and divorced her in 1907. Ruth Bernhard died in 2006 at age 102. Gertrud was murdered as Gertrud Hoffmann - does anyone know her husband and if there are any children?

Esther Mildred Hoffmann fled to the US in the late 30's. She died in Tennessee, USA. She was in touch with her half-sister Ruth Bernhard.

My great grandfather Adolf Aaron Aronhold was born in 1835 in Angerburg, now Wegorzewo in Polan. In those old days Angerburg was Eastern Prussia.

Therefore, I know that I am related to the famous mathematician Siegfried Heinrich Aronhold. Siegfried Heinrich Aronhold was born 1819 in Angerburg as son of Moses Süssel Aronhold. Either he (or his brother Jakob Süssel Aronhold) was the father of my great grandfather Adolf Aaron Aronhold (father of Richard Aronhold).

Siegfried Heinrich Aronhold had 3 children: Henriette, Emilie and Maximilian. Henriette died 1944 in Terezin at age 84. Emilie and Maximilian Ignatz disappeared. I don't know if there are children.

A couple of years ago we found the half sister of my grandmother Margarete Aronhold: Irma Abarbanell and her children Hans, Peter and Ruth.

Irma, the half-sister of my grandmother Margarete Aronhold, was older and daughter of Salomon Stransky's first wife.

Irma married Leopold Abarbanell and lived for along time in Berlin. After her divorce she shiortly returned to Prague but afterwards settled down in Berlin in Knesebeckstr. 32, next door to her half-sister Margarete. See here

News February 2015:

We found the missing link in the Berlin-Archives: Adolf Aaron Aronhold is the brother of Siegfried Heinrich Aronhold! Their father is Moses Süssel Aronhold, their mother is Wilhelmine Minna Saling.

News February 2016:

We have been found by family-members from France: Olga Thoumas, the first wife of Peter Klaus Abarbanell and her daughter Evelyne Abarbanell-Stransky.
